Pilgrim Festival Chorus Presents Celebrate! Messiah/Carol Sing-Along

Pilgrim Festival Chorus (PFC), the region’s principal community choral group, presents Celebrate! – Messiah and Carol Sing-along on Friday, December 18, at 7:30 pm at the Church of the Pilgrimage, 8 Town Square, Plymouth. The chorus’s sixth annual Messiah Sing will include a carol sing-along to give the audience an opportunity to sing favorite carols, a great way to prepare for the holiday season.


PFC director William B. Richter leads the audience in both carols and the familiar choruses from Part I of Handel’s masterpiece, concluding with the Hallelujah Chorus. Solos selected from Part I will be sung by featured local vocalists. Accompaniment on the church’s 55 rank Roche pipe organ will be performed by PFC accompanist/assistant director, Elizabeth Chapman Reilly.


In Messiah Sings, popular in this area for more than 40 years, the audience participates as the chorus. For many folks, both singers and listeners, a Messiah Sing is considered a necessary part of the holiday season.





Tickets for Celebrate! – Messiah and Carol Sing-along are $10.00 for adults and youth ages 12 and up, available at the door. Scores are available to borrow on site, or attendees are welcome to bring their own. Funds raised from this event support the PFC's yearly operating expenses. Plymouth Antiquarian Society November Burial Hill Tour

Where are the resting places of the Pilgrims? Join us for a free tour on Saturday, November 7th and discover how many of the settlers who arrived on the first four ships to Plymouth (Mayflower, Fortune, Anne, Little James), may be interred on Burial Hill. Stephen O'Neill, curator of Pilgrim Hall Museum, examines the evidence for their burials, including later gravestones on the Hill, death records, and even the burial practices and beliefs of the Pilgrims themselves.

Pilgrims on Burial Hill is part of the Antiquarian Society's program, Burial Hill: History in Progress that will continue through the year 2020. Each year, the Society will present a series of history expeditions on Burial Hill, one of America's oldest and most significant burying grounds. Tours will be offered on the first Saturday of every month at 1 pm (excepting January); meet at the top of the Hill.

No reservations are required for individuals and families. Participants may traverse steep and slippery slopes; please wear appropriate shoes. Severe weather may cancel tour; updates will be posted on the Plymouth Antiquarian Society Facebook page.

Plymouth Hospital Offers Boston Marathon Bibs

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Plymouth location is offering 2016 Boston Marathon bibs to members of the community.

Interested individuals are encouraged to complete the online application by October 30th by clicking here.

A qualified runner must raise a minimum of $1,000 and a charity runners must raise at least $6,000. There is also a $325 registration fee. Those selected will be notified in November.

Pilgrim Festival Chorus Presents A Very British Christmas

Pilgrim Festival Chorus (PFC), the region’s principal community chorus, presents a winter concert, A Very British Christmas, on Saturday, December 5 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, December 6 at 4 pm at The Church of the Pilgrimage (COTP), 8 Town Square in Plymouth. The chorus is conducted by Music Director William B. Richter and accompanied by Asst. Director Elizabeth Chapman Reilly on the church's 55 rank Roche pipe organ.

A Very British Christmas is divided into three sections: Christmas in the Cathedral, Christmas at Home, and Christmas in the Country. PFC will be sharing some of the best British music, from medieval times to the present, both sacred and secular. Christmas in the Cathedral highlights nine selections used during the annual Lessons and Carols service from King's College, Cambridge. The other sections include some of the best-loved English secular carols as well as John Rutter's nostalgic original composition, The Very Best Time of Year. Of special note are settings by the recently deceased Sir David Willcocks. Willcocks, who was closely identified with music at King's College for most of his life, helped to reinvent the Christmas carol for 20th century audiences. PFC also performs selections by British giants Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst.

Since 1999, PFC has delighted South Shore audiences with classical programming. The group of over 70 vocalists of all adult ages is dedicated to authentic choral singing. In addition to the winter concert, PFC generally presents a major choral work each spring, an annual Messiah Sing in December, and summer concerts with pops-style programming.


Tickets are $20.00 for adults, $18.00 for senior citizens and $15.00 for students over 14. Children under the age of 14 are admitted free. Plymouth Antiquarian Society Annual Meeting Saturday, November 7th

You're invited to our 96th Annual Meeting on Saturday November 7th starting at 10:30 am. Plymouth women joined together to form the Antiquarian Society in October of 1919, just a few months after Congress passed the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote, but before it was ratified and made constitutional on August 18, 1920. The achievement of equal suffrage in the United States was directly experienced by our founding members, and helped energize the early Society. Join Society President Ron Lindeman for a lively and far-ranging exploration of women's changing status in history, culminating in this extraordinary victory.

10:30 am: Business Meeting & Presentation of Nominees

11:00 am: Brunch

12:00 pm: Program: "Women's History & the 19th Amendment"

Lecture presented by President Ron Lindeman.

Long Beach Cleanup

The Goldenrod Foundation’s beach cleanup and data collection about trash (Coastsweep) will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Long Beach in Plymouth.

Participants will divide up into teams and pick up trash while recording the amounts and types of trash. The purpose is to gather data for Massachusetts-wide (Coastsweep) and global (International Coastal Cleanup) efforts. The data will help strategize ways to prevent the pollution from going into the ocean in the first place. Prizes will be given. There will be reusable options for some of the disposable items found.
