Plymouth Aero Club Scholarships

The Plymouth Aero Club has announced the availability of two $2,000 aviation scholarships. Anyone who is a resident of Plymouth County or has an affiliation with Plymouth Municipal Airport is encouraged to apply.

The scholarship can be used toward study in an accredited program that leads to a career in aviation, including professional pilot, airplane mechanic, avionics repair or aviation management. Currently certified pilots seeking advancement in their aviation career are also eligible to apply.

Plymouth Aero Club, a nonprofit group of pilots based at Plymouth Airport, works to promote the love of flying. The annual scholarship award encourages candidates who dream of aviation to achieve their goals.

Interested candidates can receive all the requirements and an application form by emailing Bob Marchese, chairman of the Plymouth Aero Club Scholarship Committee, at bobmarchese@comcast.net. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Immerse yourself in history at one of Plimoth Plantation’s spring conferences. This spring, Plimoth will be hosting British historian Stuart Peachey in April for a historic lifeways event, and celebrating the small things during June’s 17th-Century Trimmings Conference. These weekends will balance academic inquiry and practical learning, providing participants with the chance to expand their knowledge of the early Atlantic world. Whether you are simply curious about historical accessorizing, or seeking to improve the depth of your re-enacting, you can find something to love at our spring conferences!

Historic Lifeways Conference with Stuart Peachey

This weekend, Plimoth Plantation welcomes British historian Stuart Peachey, an expert on the lives of common people in Elizabethan and Stuart England. Attend lectures on 17th century clothing, accessories and foodways, participate in character development exercises, view craft demonstrations and join in a century-spanning muster! Whether your kit is from the 1680s or the 1860s, the study of material culture is a great tool for reenacting in an authentic way.

Full weekend: $200 Members, $250 Non-Members

Trimmings: Adorning the Fashionable Figure in the 17th Century

Plimoth Plantation’s 17th-Century Trimmings Conference will take place on June 6 and 7, 2015. The process and purpose of adorning oneself with decorative and embellished wardrobes was an important part of the post-medieval world. The trimmings trade contributed to a global economy, supported a complex guild structure, and bolstered expressions of social and economic class.

From the lush embroidery of a jacket to the delicate frills of a bobbin-lace collar, the 17th century was rife with sartorial flair. Discover the trades behind the trimmings, and join us for a weekend of the small things.

Plymouth Farmer's Market

The Plymouth Farmers’ Market has launched its indoor winter season at the Henry Hornblower II Visitor Center at Plimoth Plantation. The indoor season runs until May, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., usually the second Thursday of each month; however, the Feb. 12 Farmers’ Market was postponed until Feb. 26. 

Regional farmers and artisans provide fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, eggs and dairy, cheese, pasture-raised meats, baked goods, breads, herbs, honey, cut flowers, plants and artisan skin care. Culinary Insights, PFM’s cooking demonstration series, continues and will be held at 4 p.m. market days in the Patuxet Room. The market is focused on reducing and reusing and reminds shoppers to take their own shopping bags or baskets. Homemade and reusable shopping bags will be available for purchase at the PFM welcome table. 

EBT/SNAP/debit/credit cards and WIC are welcome. The market location has ample free parking. Plimoth Plantation is accessible on the GATRA Mayflower link. The market continues to be free and open to the public, year round. For more information, see www.plymouthfarmersmarket.org.

Join the Plymouth Public Library at Plymouth South High School on Saturday March 7th from 9 - 11:30 AM. They promise a delicious breakfast (including gluten free options), pictures with your favorite characters, storytelling with the great "Big Ryan" and lots of other surprises!

Papa's Pet Project

Papa's Pet Project will host a Kitty Adoption Event from noon to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 28, the PetSmart in The Grove at Plymouth. Meet some kitties and adopt a feline friend. Stop by the adoption center at Plymouth's Petsmart to pick up an adoption application or you can request a copy by email to pets@papaspetproject.org. 

The fourth annual Purrfect Doggone Bash will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Black Raspberry Pub in North Plymouth. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Pretty Shitty band. The $10 cover charge includes door prizes and free pizza between 8:30-9:30pm. All funds raised from raffles, prizes and the 50/50 will benefit Papa's Pet Project. Donations of canned cat or dog food, dry kitten food and kitty litter are always welcome.
