Celebrity Performing Artists Join Forces on ALS ONE Benefit Album

A vast collective of celebrity performing artist musicians have joined forces to create a charitable benefit album with New England based producer/performer Brian Stratton in support of ALS ONE (www.alsone.org), a non-profit partnership of the leading ALS experts in Massachusetts working together with the goal of finding treatments for ALS by 2020, while improving care now for those battling the disease. The 15-track compilation Pay it Forward, (produced by performing artist Brian Stratton), raises valuable funds for ALS ONE’s mission at an album launch concert on Friday, June 23, 8:30 pm at Harbor Fire Bar and Grill, 239 Dyke Road, Marshfield. The album will be available for public purchase on June 30, with digital download available at a later date to be announced.

“ALS ONE is extremely grateful to Brian Stratton and all of the contributing artists on this incredible compilation album in support of our mission,” said Jen DiMartino, Executive Director, ALS ONE. “ALS ONE is leading many promising studies which we hope will result in incredible breakthroughs in the fight against ALS in the near term. This album will help a great deal in not only creating awareness but also helping to fund our mission of finding treatments by 2020, while improving care now.”

Affected by many friends suffering from the fateful disease, including the late Kevin Gosnell, founder of ALS ONE, Stratton set out to make a difference in the race to find a cure for ALS. Dedicating service on a committee supporting the ALS ONE foundation inspired him to produce an album to support the organization. One by one, he approached fellow artists to share ALS ONE’s story, and his plans to help. He was not surprised with the overwhelming celebrity performing artist support for the endeavor. “These incredibly famous musicians are in the business of turning emotions, experience and trials into music. It’s their life’s mission. Each one of them was eager to support the fight to eliminate this fatal disease that has affected so many.”

Pay it Forward is an eclectic collection of original and cover songs by artists affiliated with Stratton, some in performance during his years as a musician. Many of the musicians collaborated together donating their recordings and time. The album features tracks by Bill Champlin (three-time Grammy® Award-winning former lead singer of Chicago), Darius Rucker (Hootie and the Blowfish lead vocalist), Arnold McCuller (vocalist for James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt), Jeffrey Gaines, Paula Cole, Kenny Cetera (former Chicago percussion/vocalist), Grammy Award-nominated performing artist John Ford Coley, Danny Seraphine (Chicago founding drummer), Dave Mattacks (former drummer for Paul McCartney), The Gin Blossoms and Edwin McCain. Locally, several regional musicians fill out the roster including Jon Pousette-Dart and more. Ultrasound Productions recorded the albums tracks, with mixing by PDQ productions of Miami, FL by Bob St. John, mixing engineer for Journey and Extreme.

A diverse musician himself, Stratton plays on each track, tapping several music genres, offering flavor through vocals, keys, bass guitar, guitars or backup vocals. Recognized for his connection to local bands The Infractions and Happenin’ Horns, he also has performed with many artists on the album, as well as American Idol alumna Siobhan Magnus.

ALS ONE is a partnership of the top ALS experts from leading Massachusetts institutions, including ALS Therapy Development Institute, UMass Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital and Compassionate Care ALS. These venerable institutions are combining forces with the goal of finding treatments and/or cure for ALS by 2020, while improving care now. The approach of ALS ONE is to leverage the expertise from each of the research institutions through the sharing of ideas and responsibilities to advance each of the strongest therapeutic opportunities identified. Through the sharing of information, this partnership will help eliminate unnecessary duplication and expedite the path to find an ALS treatment. As the science and research efforts take time and significant funding, ALS ONE is also working to improve care now for persons living with ALS by creating more access to clinical trials through education and transportation, as well as providing technology, equipment and support services.

Admission to the Pay it Forward launch concert is free of charge, limited to capacity. CD albums will be available for $10 on site. For more information about Pay it Forward, to make a donation to ALS ONE, or to order a CD online, visit brianstrattonmusic.com/music or visit www.alsone.org

First Saturdays on Burial Hill

First Saturdays on Burial Hill
Join Us on June 3rd

Juneteenth: A Celebration of African-American History

Plymouth's historically tiny black population included some extraordinary individuals. Celebrate their stories of challenge and accomplishment to mark Juneteenth, the oldest holiday commemorating the end of slavery and birth of freedom for African Americans after the Civil War. This guided walking tour will be led by Dr. Donna Curtin, Executive Director of Pilgrim Hall Museum.

Juneteenth: A Celebration of African-American History is part of Burial Hill: History in Progress, a free program that will continue through the year 2020. Launched independently in 2011 by the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, the Burial Hill series is now a collaborative program with the Pilgrim Society & Pilgrim Hall Museum. Each year, we will present a series of history expeditions on Burial Hill, one of America's oldest and most significant burying grounds. Tours will be offered on the first Saturday of every month at 1 pm (excepting January); meet at the top of the Hill.

No reservations are required for individuals and families. Participants may traverse steep and slippery slopes; please wear appropriate shoes. Severe weather may cancel tour; updates will be posted on the Plymouth Antiquarian Society Facebook page.

Pirates Ashore in Plymouth

Pirates Ashore in Plymouth
Saturday, May 20, 2017
Spooner House Open 10am - 1pm

In 1646 three shiploads of English privateers sailed into Plymouth harbor flush with the Spanish gold and rich cargoes they had seized in the Caribbean. Governor William Bradford recorded that the captain and his eighty sailors "drank so much they behaved like madmen." The New Plimmoth Gard, the Mayflower Society, and local maritime reenactor groups will re-live this tumultuous chapter in Plymouth history on Saturday, May 20th. From 10 am until 4 pm see pirates and Pilgrims eat, drink, and quarrel at the Mayflower Society House (4 Winslow Street). Click here for more details.

After visiting the reenactment, stop by the Spooner House (27 North Street), which will be open for public tours from 10 am to 1 pm. Built around 1749 for the widow Hannah Jackson, the Spooner House was home to one Plymouth family, the Spooners, for over two hundred years. The first Spooner to occupy the house was Deacon Ephraim Spooner, a successful local merchant and patriot during the American Revolution. The Deacon's descendants, including mariners, farmers, abolitionists, reformers, and merchants, lived here into the 1950s, adding to and adapting the house to suit their needs. James Spooner, a lifelong bachelor and patron of music, was the last member of the family to occupy the house. In 1954, he bequeathed his home and generations of family possessions to be a historical museum.

Admission: $6 adults; $3 children; free for PAS members and Plymouth residents.

The Spooner House will open for the summer season on June 1st (Thursdays and Sundays, 2 to 6 pm).

Closing Bids for Plymouth Plates

We've hit the road running with the Plymouth 400 license plate auction! Here's where the auction stands today:

*There are bids placed on 37 different license plates! That means more than a third of our available plates are already halfway to their buyers!

*The plate with the highest current bid is plate #1620. Its opening bid was for $10,000!

*The total amount of bids is up to more than $30,000. As you can see, our goal for this auction is $250,000. We've still got a ways to go! You might think $250,000 is a lofty goal, but based on our research, we know that #1 specialty plates are quite popular! For example, Ben Affleck bought Red Sox Plate #1 for $50,000, and the Cape & Islands Plate #1 sold for $147,000 at auction!

You may be asking, why is this auction so important? It's important because not only is the auction raising funds for our 2020 Anniversary events and programs, which will engage millions of people around the globe and leave lasting legacies for generations to come, it is also an opportunity to have a rare low-numbered license plate-- the ONLY Massachusetts specialty plate honoring American history! These plates can be passed down through generations, so they're truly an American keepsake.

We're looking forward to June 3rd, when all bids will close during our live auction event. You can follow along and bid online at MyPlymouthPlate.org, via telephone bid (by calling J. James Auctioneers and Appraisers at 508-746-8608), or in person at the live auction event at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, located at 99 Newbury Street in Boston. Space at the live auction event is limited, so reserve today by clicking here.

We hope you'll continue to share the auction information with your friends, family, and everyone you know! We're excited to see who walks away with these plates, and we're even more excited for the moment when we drive past one on the road!

Kind regards,
Michele Pecoraro
